Quezon City, PH – The Scientific Career System (SCS), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI), conducted a Career Scientist Orientation and Mentoring activity for DOST-ASTI researchers last 18 February 2025 at the DOST-ASTI Training Room.
The activity aimed to equip DOST-ASTI research personnel with a deeper understanding of the SCS, a system that provides incentives, benefits, and career advancement opportunities to scientists in the country. The activity was divided into two key segments – an orientation on the qualifications and application process for acquiring a scientist rank, followed by a mentoring workshop that provided personalized guidance on career progression.
In the knowledge-sharing session during the orientation, the career scientists discussed crucial topics such as ethics for researchers and the risks associated with predatory journals and conferences. The discussion highlighted the importance of upholding research integrity and ensuring that scientific contributions meet rigorous standards.
The participants had the opportunity to engage with the career scientists during the one-on-one mentoring workshop, allowing them to gain valuable perspectives on enhancing their portfolios and strengthening their credentials to qualify for the SCS.
As the event concluded, the participants expressed renewed motivation and a clearer vision for their scientific career paths. The SCS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting DOST-ASTI in cultivating its pool of scientific talent, with the shared goal of producing the Institute’s first-ever Career Scientist.
This initiative marks a crucial step in empowering DOST-ASTI researchers to maximize their potential in contributing to scientific progress as well as elevating the Institute’s impact in the country’s research and development landscape.
