2nd Joint COARE-PREGINET (INNOVATE) Stakeholders’ Meeting
Last 13 December 2022, alongside the celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the Advanced Science and Technology Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, and as one of the co-located events, the 2nd joint COARE-PREGINET Stakeholders’ Meeting was held at the Monet 1 Ballroom of the Novotel Manila Araneta City.
The 2nd Joint COARE-PREGINET Stakeholders’ meeting was spearheaded by the Information Network for Open and Viable Applications and Technology Exchange or INNOVATE with the theme “Converging capabilities, Creating new opportunities, Forging ahead”. The meeting highlighted COARE and PREGINET’s updates and initiatives in the past four (4) years since its first Stakeholders’ Meeting in 2018.
The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Denis Villorente, who was the original proponent of PREGINET and was instrumental in the growth of DOST-ASTI's science and technology (S&T) infrastructures when he was the Agency’s Director (2004-2016), gave a Keynote on the evolution of science infrastructures and their role in research collaborations. He shared how COARE and PREGINET started, its current capacity and capabilities, and discussed its future direction.
In the past few years, COARE and PREGINET have come to their appreciation of their built partnership with their stakeholders and collaborators. To highlight the relevance of the theme, COARE and PREGINET’s partners and users from different organizations discussed the significance of their research projects to communities and how COARE and PREGINET services became instrumental in carrying out their activities. Presentations in the areas of health (COVID-19 and telemedicine), disaster risk reduction and management, agriculture (rice genomics), academe (molecular modeling), and networks provided the audience with how S&T infrastructures provide the platform to undertake groundbreaking research activities.
