Unveiling the Quantum Realm: QCS Project takes center stage at MSU-IIT Lecture Series
Iligan City, Philippines — DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) Technical Experts took the spotlight at the recently concluded Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology's (MSU-IIT) Quantum Lecture Series held on 16 March 2024 at the MSU-IIT Mini Theater. Organized by the College of Computer Studies (CCS) and the CCS Executive Council, in collaboration with OneQuantum Philippines, this event brought together experts, enthusiasts, faculty, and students to explore the cutting-edge field of quantum computing.
DOST-ASTI's Mr. Elmer C. Peramo and Jul Jon R. General, along with Dr. Henry Adorna of the University of the Philippines Diliman and Mr. Bobby Corpus, President of OneQuantum Philippines, delivered illuminating presentations on quantum computing, as well as the fundamental principles underlying quantum technology.
Mr. Peramo highlighted the complementary relationship between Artificial Intelligence and quantum computing, explaining how quantum algorithms can boost and accelerate machine learning and deep learning techniques.
Meanwhile, Mr. General's presentation delved into the quantum realm, unpacking concepts like superposition, entanglement, and interference that set quantum computing apart from classical paradigms. He demonstrated how encoding data into quantum bits (qubits) and manipulating their states can tackle complex problems.
The presentations showcased the Quantum Computing Simulation (QCS) Project, which aims to optimize quantum circuit simulators for execution on DOST-ASTI's High-Performance Computing (HPC) facility, enabling local researchers to simulate and verify quantum algorithms, and advancing quantum research in the Philippines through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives.
Through the MSU-IIT Quantum Lecture Series, faculty, students, and enthusiasts had the opportunity to interact and learn from industry experts, inspiring them in the career paths they have chosen to pursue. DOST-ASTI is committed to promoting the growth and resilience of the Philippine emerging technology space by connecting with and inspiring the next generation of computer scientists, engineers, IT specialists, and researchers.
