Iloilo City, PH — The DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) proudly showcased the Quantum Computing Simulation (QCS) Project at the University of the Philippines Visayas Komsai Convention 2023, held on 26 May 2023 in celebration of Komsai Week 2023: Emerging Technologies

Organized by the non-profit IT and Computer Science organization UPV Komsai.Org, the event attracted professors, faculty, and students eager to know more about the latest technological trends in Computer Science.

Participants had the opportunity to gain insights from industry experts and explore various employment opportunities in the evolving field of IT. Mr. Jeffrey A. Aborot, Project Leader of the QCS Project, served as resource speaker. He discussed quantum computing and its simulation in a high-performance computing environment.

In his presentation, Mr. Aborot provided a robust explanation of what makes quantum computing distinct from classical computing; highlighting quantum phenomena like superposition, entanglement, and interference, as well as how they can be used in quantum computing algorithms. Further, Mr. Aborot discussed the potential impacts of quantum computing across various sectors, such as medicine, logistics, energy, security, IT product development, job creation, and education.

KomCon 2023 served as a platform for merging ideas and fostering an environment of mutual learning, echoing UPV KomSai.Org's core principle that knowledge shared among individuals leads to the acquisition of new knowledge and the creation of new ideas.

UPV IT and ComSci students had the opportunity to interact and learn from industry experts, inspiring them in the career paths they have chosen to pursue. DOST-ASTI is committed to promoting the growth and resilience of the Philippine tech industry by connecting with and inspiring the next generation of computer scientists, IT specialists, and researchers.
