The Advanced Science and Technology Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ASTI) extends heartfelt congratulations to Engr. Denis F. Villorente on his recent appointment as the second Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).

Prior to assuming this role at PhilSA, DDG Villorente served as the Director of DOST-ASTI from 2003 to 2016. Following his tenure, he was appointed as Undersecretary for Legacy Systems and Technical Assistance at the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Among his numerous accomplishments during his directorship at the agency, DDG Villorente notably served as the original proponent of the Philippine Research, Education, and Government Information Network (PREGINET), the country’s first and only national research and education network (nREN).

In 2010, DDG Villorente was recognized as one of the four Career Executive Service Officers (CESO) honored with the Gawad Career Executive Service (CES) Award, the highest accolade bestowed upon a public official in the Philippines.

He also served as the Project Director for DOST’s flagship e-government initiative, the Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil) Project, which subsequently led to his appointment as Deputy Executive Director for e-Government of the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO).

DOST-ASTI takes immense pride in your achievements and contributions, DDG Denis! We extend our best wishes as you join the mission in establishing a place in space for the Philippines.
