DOST-ASTI, NTC holds Stakeholders’ Meeting for NetMesh Project
Quezon City, Ph -- The DOST’s Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) and National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) organized a stakeholders’ meeting attended by officials of NTC regional offices as well as representatives of telecommunication companies in the Philippines.
Held last 15 November 2019 at the NTC Multi-purpose Hall, the event served as an introduction to the NTC Fixed and Mobile Benchmarking System for Regions I, IV, and XII (NTC NetMesh) Project. It also provided interactive dialogue of ideas between different entities from telecommunication companies and internet service providers (ISPs).
The objective is for DOST-ASTI, in cooperation with University of the Philippines Diliman, to deliver the development of a fixed mobile benchmarking system that could help NTC and other partner agencies for their audit and assessment of ISPs in the Philippines.
NetMesh aims to support NTC Memorandum Circular (MC) 07-08-2015 that addresses the “Rules on the Measurement of Fixed Broadband/Internet Access Service”. It also seeks to monitor and measure network parameters of internet quality from the perspective of a customer.
Dr. Joel Marciano, DOST-ASTI's acting Director said that [DOST-ASTI] works towards fostering and putting in place infrastructure system and processes that could open more areas of cooperation between DOST and NTC through research and development. The NetMesh project is another effort to improve Filipino’s quality of life through the internet.
Indeed, Science for the people.
