Quezon City, Ph -- The DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute launched “ASTI Talks” on 17 April 2023, a knowledge sharing activity designed to showcase the agency researchers’ recent works on emerging technologies.

Held via Zoom and Facebook Live, ASTI Talks is rooted in three main objectives: (a) Make scientific results a common good while upholding intellectual properties; (b) allow other researchers to further explore the significant potential of emerging technologies and; (c) pave the way for concrete use of research findings.

The pilot run focused on four research topics that were presented by DOST-ASTI researchers in recent international conferences:

  • SDNaaS: Software Defined Networking as an IXP Service
  • Intelligent Flood Detection Using Traffic Surveillance Images Based on Convolutional Neural Network Image Parsing
  • Towards the Development and Deployment of Community LTE Networks in Rural Areas
  • RuralSync Providing Digital Content to Remote Communities in the Philippines through Opportunistic Spectrum Access

Mr. John Robert Mendoza shares knowledge on Cable Operators Neutral Network Exchange for Community Transformation.

Mr. Eduardo Piedad Jr. discusses their team's research on Intelligent Flood Detection Using Traffic Surveillance Images Based on Convolutional Neural Network & Image Parsing.

Ms. Riza Carmela Pineda talks about the development and deployment
of Community LTE Networks in rural areas.

Mr. Ramon Vann Cleff Raro shares knowledge on providing digital content to remote communities in the Philippines through opportunistic spectrum access.

"In line with our Agency's mandate of undertaking scientific activities in support of research and innovation on emerging technologies, it is also important for us to ensure that the scientific results in our hands are coherently disseminated and cascaded to the public as well as our partners and stakeholders," Director Franz A. de Leon said.

He added that the forum supports DOST's unwavering campaign of advancing 'Science for the People,' because at the forefront of the agency’s goals was to make sure that its innovations would benefit the lives of Filipinos.
