This year’s National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) focused on promoting a greener economy through science. The five-day event was held in Cagayan De Oro City from 27 November to 1 December 2024.

Carrying the theme “Siyensya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” with a subtheme “Providing Solutions and Opening Opportunities in the Green Economy,” aligns with the event’s focus on sustainable practices

One of the highlights of the NSTW 2024 S&T Exhibit was DOST-ASTI’s participation, as featured in the agency's DOST-ASTI Tech Tok channel Episode 11 DOST-ASTI goes to the 2024 NSTW in Cagayan de Oro!

Among these innovations was ASIMOV-HAWKS, an unmanned aerial system designed for real-world applications such as disaster response, agricultural mapping, and resource monitoring.

Complementing this was the STEER-VIROS project, which demonstrated advancements in road safety through smart traffic management systems. Additionally, the ROAMER project presented an autonomous ground vehicle that optimizes agricultural processes, including banana plantation monitoring and resource management.

DOST-ASTI also presented ASTI-ALaM’s Decentralized Intelligent Model Exchange Repository (DIMER), a pioneering online model store designed to democratize access to AI technologies. DIMER empowers AI researchers, developers, and enthusiasts by providing ready-to-use machine learning models, accelerating innovation in areas such as agriculture, urban planning, and disaster resilience.

The Gul.ai project introduced its AI- and IoT-enabled plant-growing system, inspiring future farmers and demonstrating the potential of smart agriculture to enhance sustainability and food security. Meanwhile, the Quantum Computing Simulation (QCS) Project showcased efforts to prepare the country for a quantum-enabled future by fostering a quantum-literate workforce. By developing foundational capabilities in quantum computing, the project equips researchers, educators, and students with the skills necessary to explore this revolutionary technology.

From democratizing cutting-edge technologies like AI to empowering the next generation of Filipino scientists and researchers, DOST-ASTI’s R&D projects embody its mission of aligning innovation with national goals. Together, these initiatives contribute to a greener, smarter, and more resilient Philippines.
