Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro — To strengthen its commitment to fostering regional collaboration and innovation in artificial intelligence, DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) recently collaborated with the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office in MIMAROPA. Mr. Elmer C. Peramo, one of the agency’s technical experts, took center stage as resource speaker during the recently concluded 2nd MIMAROPA Data Festival, held from 19-20 October 2023, at Calapan City Convention Center in Oriental Mindoro.

Themed "Harnessing the Power of Data and Statistics for a Future-ready Filipino and Filipina Youth," the event aimed to enhance statistical literacy and awareness, particularly among the youth, in the MIMAROPA region. 

In his presentation, Mr. Peramo delved into the fundamentals of Data Science and AI and highlighted its potential to advance the country's technological landscape. He also emphasized DOST-ASTI's work in democratizing cutting-edge AI technologies through the iTANONG and ASTI-Automated Labeling Machine (ASTI-ALaM) projects, ensuring that AI-driven progress is not confined to urban centers and inspiring regional communities to leverage AI to address their unique challenges. 

The 2nd MIMAROPA Data Festival provided an opportunity for DOST-ASTI to engage with statisticians, data experts, and stakeholders, enabling the agency to gain deep insights into the region's challenges and opportunities.
