Johor Baru, Malaysia -- Out of 65 research studies presented in the 2019 6th International Conference on Space Science and Communication, the paper entitled “Development of Software Defined Radio-based Satellite Telemetry and Telecommand System in Virtual Instrumentation Environment” written by DOST-ASTI employees bagged the Best Paper award under the Geoscience and Remote Sensing, and Satellite and Communication Technology categories.
Also known as IconSpace2019, the conference was held last 28-30 July 2019 at the Pulai Springs Resort, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia with the theme “Advancing Space Science for Societal Sustainability." The conference catered participants from around the world to “provide a platform for researchers, scientists and industrially relevant [people] to explore, co-operate, promote, motivate [them] in space science to achieve societal sustainability goals.”
Engr. Calvin Artemies Hilario, Sr. SRS of DOST-ASTI represented the organization in the conference where he presented the paper he co-authored with Dr. Joel Joseph S. Marciano, Jr. (DOST-ASTI Acting Director), Engr. Alvin E. Retamar (Chief SRS), and Engr. Mar Francis D. De Guzman (SRS II) from the Solutions and Services and Engineering Division (SSED) of the Institution.
Their paper presents the development and implementation of a satellite telemetry and telecommand system in a software-defined radio platform and a virtual instrumentation environment. The team conducted different simulations and actual performance tests which showed the capability and versatility of the system and its potential application in building fully reconfigurable ground station.
The key topics discussed in the IconSpace2019 include Astronomy and Astrophysics, Atmospheric and Magnetospheric Sciences, Geosciences and Remote Sensing, Satellite and Communication Technology, Interdisciplinary Space Science, among others.
Presented papers in IconSpace2019 will be published as a proceeding and indexed in the IEEE Xplore.
