Director de Leon spotlights DOST-ASTI AI Innovation at AI Asia Expo 2023
Pasay City, PH — Heralding the Department of Science and Technology-Advanced Science and Technology Institute's (DOST-ASTI) groundbreaking R&D projects and initiatives in artificial intelligence, Director Franz A. de Leon, Ph.D., took center stage to highlight how DOST-ASTI is leveraging innovative AI technologies to drive national development during the AI Asia Expo - Philippines 2023 and Industrial Digital Transformation Congress.
Held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom (MGBX) Convention Hall, Newport World Resorts, Pasay City, from 7-9 November 2023, with the theme “Redefining the Future of Asia with AI Innovation,” the event served as a collaborative platform where high-level officials, industry executives, and experts participated in strategic dialogue and knowledge exchange, focusing on the responsible integration of AI across various sectors. The discussions aimed to address crucial topics, such as ethics, governance, and the transformative potential of AI in shaping industries and contributing to economic development.
Dr. de Leon pointed out the country's significant potential for growth and innovation in AI, discussing how to foster an ecosystem that values research, creativity, and ethical AI implementation. In his talk, "Promoting Research and Innovation in AI in the Philippines,” he outlined DOST-ASTI’s critical contributions to the Philippine AI space, emphasizing key projects that are pushing the boundaries of AI applications relevant to Filipinos, and positioning the country not just as a consumer but as an innovator within the larger Asian AI ecosystem.
Dr. de Leon acknowledged the challenges of AI adoption and emphasized the importance of collaboration with partner organizations and stakeholders in the government, academia, and industry. This collaboration ensures that AI solutions are effectively implemented and bridges the gap between research and practical applications.
