The Department of Science and Technology-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) in partnership with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) hosted the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) Workshop on 14 to 16 November 2018 at Diliman, Quezon City.
The workshop aimed to increase the knowledge of local networking professionals about the DNSSEC. Over the course of three days, DNS administrators were introduced to DNSSEC concepts and best practices in server configuration, security, and operations. It was also the first time that ICANN conducted a DNSSEC Workshop in the country.
Ms. Rachel Reyes, ICANN’s Training Resource Person, said: “Nowadays, DNS has been a target for security hacking such as DNS spoofing and DNS hijacking. Such attacks are redirecting your browser to malicious or infected websites”. “With DNS deployment, this will ensure that you are actually connecting to the actual website. DNSSEC also complements other security improvements such as SSL and TLS”, she added.
DNSSEC is a technology that was developed to digitally sign DNS data and to assure their validity. It attests the validity of the address of the site you visit.
The workshop was participated by different networking professionals from various institutions such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), dotPH, Department of Health (DOH), Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), University of the Philippines (UP) System, Internet Society – Philippines Chapter (ISOCPH), and Philippine Network Foundation (PHNET).
