Academia Sinica Grid Computing Center (ASGC) in Taiwan and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA)

The DOST-ASTI collaborated with the ASGC and Prof. Tso-Ren Wu of the National Central University (Taiwan) on an in-house storm surge model, COMCOT-SS, which Dr. Wu’s team developed. The model can simulate storm surge and tide on spherical coordinate simultaneously and couple with global tide model (TPXO Model) and regional meteorological model (WRF). Inundation area and maximum surge height can also be calculated. Using Typhoon Haiyan as a case study to demonstrate the accuracy of the simulation model, Dr. Wu’s team used data from ASTI-developed automated weather stations. Bathymetry data provided by the NAMRIA was also provided.
