In search of Outstanding Aklanons, the Provincial Government of Aklan has chosen the Director of the Department of Science and Technology - Advanced Science and Technology Institute, Denis F. Villorente, as this year's Outstanding Aklanon Awardee in the field of Information and Technology. A plaque of recognition was conferred to Director Villorente by Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez during the 55th Founding Anniversary of Aklan on 25 April 2011 at the ABL Sports Complex, Provincial Capitol Compound, Kalibo Aklan.

Two (2) Barangays in Jolo, Sulu received an automated weather station (AWS), automatic rain gauge (ARG) unit and water level station last 22-24 February 2011. 

Barangay Walled City acquired an ARG and water level monitoring station, while Barangay San Raymundo received an AWS. Said modern weather tracking devices can remotely do meteorological measurements and send data on a real- time basis.

The Jolo deployment team was composed of Messrs. Harold Bryan Paler and Neil Xavier Elpa of the DOST - Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), as well as Messrs. Arnel Manoos, Rolando Binalayo, Nelson Delampasig and Crescenciano Genson of the DOST - Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
